June Keenan, M.P.H, M.S.W.
Chairman and CEO

June Keenan has spent her career devising solutions to health-management challenges. An experienced executive with a community focus, Ms. Keenan has helped numerous healthcare providers and managed-care organizations respond to the demands of today's complex and ever-changing healthcare environment.

The Creative Vision behind Activity Works

While serving as Senior Vice President of Community Health and Public Policy for North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, Keenan spearheaded the initiative to address childhood obesity locally. With a belief that multiple voices can unite to solve community-level challenges, Keenan partnered with an array of health, community and education experts to explore viable approaches to the crisis.

The result was Activity Works, which:

  • Gets kids moving: Physical education minutes add up during short, guided classroom adventures.
  • Teaches students to enjoy fitness: Educational content is fun, while encouraging healthy choices.
  • Improves classroom performance: After burning off excess energy, students are recharged, refreshed and ready to learn.

While with North Shore, Ms. Keenan managed community-health initiatives, while supervising the health system's public policy and advocacy programs. As head of the Office of Sponsored Programs, Ms. Keenan centralized non-research grants. She also created the Office of Health Services Research, which generated a robust portfolio of research projects focused on community-based geriatric services.

A History of Entrepreneurial Vision

Prior to her tenure at North Shore, Ms. Keenan built a career as an innovator in health-management and administration, founding several successful firms.

  • Keenan & Co.: Later merged with American Express Tax and Business Services, where she served as Managing Director of Hospitals and Health Systems.
  • HealthScope Administration: A leader in Medicaid-managed care development, reorganizing ambulatory care in hospitals and community centers while providing capital and infrastructure to organizations entering the managed-care arena.
  • Advica Health Management: A management consulting firm to the health-services industry.

Ms. Keenan holds master's degrees in public health and social work from Columbia University in New York and a bachelor's degree from the National University of Ireland in Dublin.
